The YouWin entrepreneurial programme by the Federal Government has kicked off in some selected states of the country. The initiate aims to create between 80,000 to 110,000 good and sustainable jobs for youths over the next four years.
About 500 youths attended ten Enterprise Innovation Programme held at the University in Lagos recently, while the programme has entered it operative stage in Abuja, Ibadan, Benin, Gombe, Kaduna and Akwa Ibom states.
President Goodluck Jonathan was quoted at the launch of the programme that his administration was committed to creating job opportunities for Nigerian youths by empowering them to become job provider and not job seekers.
According to the Director Enterprise Development Center, Pan African University, Mr. Peter Bankole “the programme would allow participants learn more from each other, stressing that those who win were people who leveraged networking”. He noted that YouWin awardees will receive several benefits that would transform their businesses in the short and mid-term. According to the institution, each of the possible 1,200 winners will receive to awards were grants, which were not to be paid back.
However, the award will be disbursed in installments oven an 18-month period. Also, the size of award and disbursements will be based on the specific business needs of each winner and their ability to meet agreed business and job creation target. And winners will be linked with other sources of financing for those who require it.
Each winner in the YouWin programme will be assigned a mentor who will establish the ongoing business relationship and guide the young entrepreneurs in day to day operation and management of business. Also mentors are to guide and open their candidate to a wide range of appropriate resources that are available for growing their business. The mentors will be sourced from the private supporters of YouWin.
